Filipino martial arts deserve the stage and the world. We joined fellow bloggers watching the advanced screening of Viva Films' "Maria" starring Cristine Reyes directed by Pedring A. Lopez at Cine Adarna at UP Film Center last Friday.
If you're into action, Maria opens with scenes to dazzle the senses in slow-mo stunt shots. It's actually the eskrima/ hand arm combat (Filipino Martial Arts) that they want to feature in Maria. As the story unveils, you'll stumble on why she was called Lily which the producers said will be revealed in the coming months as prequel. Fil-Am Hollywood visual effects genius Sonny Sison shared there will be two prequels to slowly introduce Maria's background.
Incredible lighting created the dramatic scenes with such slow-mo stunts. Maria became Pinoy's John Wick and we love it. Director Pedring Lopez acknowledged Cristine Reyes and Jennifer Lee for shooting 90% of the action scenes because doubles protected dangerous fight sequences. The character of Ronnie Lazaro sparked my interest being the trainer/coach. Maria is an exciting film every Pinoy will be proud to share to the world. Don't miss Maria starting March27 in cinemas nationwide. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/VIVAFilms/
