Review: Teachers' sacrifices and different struggles in Maestra Dec8-9 at Cine Lokal

Indeed, teachers deserve more rewards for their sacrifices. I've joined fellow bloggers attending the advanced screening of Maestra last Thursday at Black Maria Cinema in Mandaluyong with the cast and the team that pushes to pay tribute to real-life heroes. From real struggles of real teachers; Mam Espie Bautista (played by Gloria Sevilla), Mam Genie Panguelo (played by Angeli Bayani) and Iah Seraspi (played by Anna Luna), the three teachers' stories with each distinct struggle have distinct reason and motivation to facilitate learning in the classroom.
Direk Lemuel Lorca presented the three teachers meeting at Carl Balita Review Center in the hope of passing the teachers' board exam (LET) with similar struggles yet unique circumstances. All three were inspirational having to survive difficulties and it is in those details that matter and made them stronger. I loved the scenes where Iah (Anna Luna) eats rice with crackers as it is the only meal she can afford being raised in a poor fisherman's family in Romblon. Mam Espie Bautista the senior citizen lecturer who kept teaching through the years and Genie Panguelo(Angeli Bayani) who proved that using the heart in facilitating learning is more effective in the remote school in Tarukan, Mt Pinatubo. I cried at Genie and Iah hoping to finally see their names and the newspaper. This movie should be watched by all not just the aspiring teachers but those who are already in the field to better understand why too many are losing faith in the profession and the system. Teachers should be heard because their need to be understood is also the same understanding they will give our learners. Also starring in the movie are Lou Veloso, Suzette Ranillo, Yayo Aguila, William Martinez and Paul Salas. Don't miss it on December 8-9 at Cine Lokal SM Cinemas, SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Fairview, SM Manila, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, SM Mall of Asia. For more info please visit
