We find recluse at passion we developed through the years regardless if it's totally incomprehensible and not acceptable for many. I've reflected on what makes me tick everyday watching the press preview of 9 Works Theatrical Productions' Tick Tick Boom last Friday night at RCBC Theater. With the three leads interchanging characters were Miss Saigon's Tanya Manalang, Ariel Reonal and Jef Flores, Tick Tick Boom was one unforgettable play for the struggling artists and celebrities at crossroads hoping to find contentment. It was my first time watching our homegrown world-class theater artists on stage and I was amazed at their stamina and memory skills playing multiple roles.
Jef Flores caught me drop my jaw at his awesome non-stop songs and lines especially at one scene dancing on top of the table that dropped. I also thought it was part of the scene falling from the table that broke and I thought it was part of the show that he led us all more into the emotion of his character more than the minor glitch. Thank God he did not hurt himself falling and he continued performing without gaps. Tick Tick Boom had no intermission and all of them managed costume changes well in the nick of time.
If you want to be amazed and entertained and even if you have not watched the well-loved "Rent", 9 Works' Tick Tick Boom is one play to make you fall in love with your chosen passion. The musical taught me the beauty of wit and passion in one musical play sure to lure you out of the pit. It is the grit of your unsung emotions and it will definitely make you appreciate our very own talents. Tick Tick Boom runs Oct1-23, 2016 at RCBC Theater, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue Makati City.
