Event: Danilyn's Melinda Medallo awarded among the 23rd Ulirang Ina Awards #UlirangInaAwardees2016

The meaning of my life is she. While this Elvis Costello song captivated the hearts of many on Mothers' Day today at Manila Hotel, Mrs. Melinda Medallo, the proprietor of Danilyn's Enterprises could not help but cry of appreciation at the gesture of her ailing husband going up on the stage to her receiving the 2016 Ulirang Ina Awards together with the other 16 awardees from different categories. Among the awardees include celebrity mom Danica Sotto-Pingris, Direk Maryo J Delos Reyes receiving the award for Mama Lourdes J. Delos Reyes (Posthumous), Usec. Corazon Jimenez, Hon.Justice Ma.Luisa C.Quijano-Padilla, Mrs.Teresa Villegas Daza, Mrs. Teresita V. Chan, Mrs. Rose Marie B.Lazaro, Mrs.Thelma Mendoza, Mrs.Aleli V. Pansacola, Mrs.Lilia Paredes Villanueva, Mrs.Milagros Benedicto, Mrs.Nathalie Estanislao from Socio-Civic/Religious  Category, Dr Betsy Bustamante-Tan, Dr.Ofelia Silapan from the Education, Mrs. Marcela De Chavez as Ulirang Ina ng Angkan and Mrs. Tita R. Sazon (received by a relative) also from Posthumous category.
Mrs. Medallo was still in disbelief how she was able to get this far and elated at the thought that mothers are honored by such a foundation. During the interview, Ulirang Ina Ama Awards Foundation President Mr. Wilfredo M. Talag announced this year's awardees conferred by Hon. Justice Normandie B. Pizarro. Being nominated as Ulirang Ina is already a humbling experience according to Mrs. Medallo who shared how the family started Danilyn's Enterprises. Juggling a furniture business and being a mom at the same time was not easy trained well by her own mother, the real supermom who gave her enough wisdom to keep going.
"You have to be a disciplinarian sometimes but your children have to know it is for the better future of all", said Mrs. Medallo who began instilling the same passion to her own children and the rest of the family. She was able to enjoin the neighbors and distant relatives to join and learn how to be "service-oriented" before capitalizing profit gains for the company.
It was not the easy rags-to-riches story because it took commitment and hardwork that made the Danilyn's Enterprises where it is today. From her first hobby of creating cute art pieces to furniture that became a million peso industry, Danilyn's became a dream come true of a simple mother. Be a mom not just to your family to help this nation according to Mrs. Medallo who attributes the success of the business at the success of her own family. Danilyn's Enterprises was a collaboration of her name and husband Danny (Danny and Melinda). At times when being a mom is difficult, keep being the source of strength to your family, she said.
Do not content staying home waiting for your husband according to Mrs. Medallo. "As a mom, try to look for something that will contribute to your family and to your country. Help the people around you and it was helping the family and the families around us that made Danilyns an industry giant it is today", she said. At the end of the day, whatever you stumble in life, face your problems and contribute helping in the solution according to Mam Mel. "Hands-on" she kept reminding me that moms should not let helpers and maids do all the work for the family because the values and strength they will gain should always come from the mother. Mrs. Melinda Medallo became a mother not just to her family and may this mother's love be exuded to all Filipino mothers to further this nation. From her example may breed Filipinos that will bring further strength to this nation. The meaning of all those yap that we hear every single day to always do the right thing and study hard is the love and wisdom we carry as parents today. Thank you Mrs. Medallo for reminding us how moms contribute to the significant moment in our history before the election. Behind every leader and every follower is a mom. May we all imbue the strength you carry for the nation from this day forward. Now we know that to be a meaning is to be a mom. Happy Mother's Day to all!
