Music is definitely a cognitive exercise. Conscious or not, it's impossible not to be moved especially at appreciating every detail of a performance by an orchestra. ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the genius of renowned American composer John Williams on December 12 at The Theater at Solaire. I joined the media witnessing the magic of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra giving a short performance last Wednesday at the Dolphy Theater.
From a news bureau's popular theme song, Maestro Gerard Salonga introduced the Concert Master Ralph Taylan who did violin solo of the OST from the movie Schindler's List also composed by John Williams. It was then that I closed my eyes and felt how it's pulling strings in my heart until a tear dropped. It was magical to the point that scenes from the movie flashed before my eyes with "I could've got more. I could've got more out..." Maestro Gerard followed by performing the Harry Potter theme which to many was exciting.
When asked what particular theme/song would be best to say I Love You, he recommended Richard Wagner. I was also curious how I can get my students learn to appreciate the orchestra so I asked which song would be best to begin. He said he learned starting with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and to many who would smile he followed saying "Not too many know that's Mozart". I miss watching a live orchestra play my favorite music. This is just what we all need to fuel our spirit at work and at home. Don't miss ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra's "The Magic of John Williams" to be joined by Jose Mari Chan, Nikki Gil and Morisette Amon on December 12 8pm at The Theater at Solaire.
