For most of us who are indifferent on the plight of Filipino farmers in the country, it is time to make haste. From the annual giving back of Junior Chambers International's Search for Outstanding Farmers in the Philippines comes their newest campaign to help boost awareness for farming in the first ever TOFARM Film Festival. With the award-winning director Maryo J. Delos Reyes, Universal Harvester, Inc., Executive Vice-President Dr. Milagros O. How and TOFARM Program Director Rommel Cunanan, TOFARM FilmFest was launched to the media last Thursday at Annabel's Restaurant in Quezon City.
The theme "The Plight of the Farmer: His Trials and Triumphs" will be the inspiration in selecting 6 films to be shown in theaters celebrating TOFARM Filmfest. "TOFARM: Farmers at Work" will be the theme of the entries in PHOTO and INFOMERCIAL contests. 6 selected screenplays will receive a seed production grant in the amount of 1.5M pesos to be released in three (3) trenches at Php500,000 each. Deadline of entries submission of the completed full-length film is on Friday April 22, 2016 and awarding ceremonies is set on July 17 at 7pm at a venue to be announced later. Top 3 films will receive trophies and cash prizes Php500,000 (1st), Php400,000 (2nd), Php300,000(3rd), Php100,000(Special Jury Award).
The INFOMERCIAL contest is open to all, one or two minute screenplay following the theme Modern Philippine Agriculture featuring suggested topics like Using Fertilizer of UHI, farming, fishery, and/or livestock best practices, Inorganic and organic applications, Curing a specific disease or infestation, How to improve farmer financial capability and Other topics subject to organizer's approval. 1st Prize will receive Php120,000, 2nd Prize Php100,000 and 3rd Prize is Php80,000. Download full mechanics and entry form at tofarm.org. PHOTO CONTEST is open to all on two (2) categories; DSLR and Non-DSLR ( point and shoot, mobile phones, tablet, etc). Include brand name, model of camera, phone, tablet used, location, title, name and address of farmer, fisherfolk, livestock raiser or related individuals and indicate if amateur or professional. Submit three (3) photos in one (1) serious, one(1) funny photo and one (1) selfie as proof that the proponent took the photos. Use the theme "Philippine agriculture man-made wonders, innovations and ingenuity". Submit a high resolution jpeg(300dpi) together with its corresponding RAW file. Only minimal editing and modification such as cropping, brightness and contrast adjustments are allowed. Submit photo entries to email@example.com on or before September 30, 2015.
