You don't have to be pregnant to be a mother. Some ladies left their children to relatives seeking greener pastures abroad. Those who eventually became the guardians usually suffer fighting for rights on the custody of the child claimed by biological moms. I joined in the celebration of Women's Month watching Star Cinema's Madrasta and MMK The Movie. Attended by the original cast Ms Charo Santos, Aiko Melendez, Richard Gomez, Caridad Sanchez, Robert Arevalo and direk Olivia Lamasan at UP Cine Adarna, memories of the historical MMFF scam showed the viewers why Aiko Melendez truly deserved the Best Actress award.
I remembered watching this film with my sister and I couldn't help but cry at the demise of Aiko as the guardian of her niece to cousin Chin-Chin Gutierrez in the movie. It was Aiko's masterpiece that should've earned her first Best Actress trophy had it not been the MMFF fiasco. The movie reminded me of my best decision to stay when I was offered a job abroad.
It was unforgettable movie that brought back memories. The young film enthusiasts of today should watch these classic movies to better appreciate this generation's blockbusters. ABS-CBN's Father of Film Restoration Leo Katigbak announced that they are already restoring Karnal and Ikaw Ay Akin, some of the most important films in history. I am really excited to watch the next films of ABS-CBN Film Restoration, Central Digital Lab in cooperation with UP Film Institute. Thank you ABS-CBN for this significant advocacy to restore and remaster classic Filipino films. May the youth of today develop interest and motivation to appreciate its status today.
