Event: #ABSCBN pays tribute to the #StarForAllSeasons #VilmaSantos #digitallyrestored films #ABSCBNFilmArchives
ABS-CBN Film Archives in partnership with the University of the Philippines Film Institute (UPFI) paid tribute to the one and only Star For All Seasons Governor Vilma Santos showing three of her most remarkable films digitally-restored and re-mastered format in "Vilma X 3" at the Cine Adarna of UPFI last Thursday in Diliman. I was fortunate to have witnessed stars of the movie "Bata Bata Pano Ka Ginawa" join the significant event. Present during the special screening were Albert Martinez, Cherry Pie Picache, Mark Neumann and Direk Chito Rono, Direk Rory Quintos, Malu Santos and the father of film restoration from Central Digital Lab, Leo Katigbak.
Vilmanians were camped out early morning to watch all the movies, "Anak directed by Rory Quintos, "Kapag Langit Ang Humatol" directed by Laurice Guillen and "Bata Bata Pano Ka Ginawa" by director Chito Rono. When interviewed, Vilma was all-apologetic for coming late than expected but stayed until every single soul was satisfied with interview and photo opportunities. She was more appreciative of the lines she once delivered and she admitted that back then, the movie did not appeal to her. Vilma did not expect the extent of appreciation drawn by fans and critics and that day when she was given tribute was also the announcement that she'll have to attend two more recognition from NCCA and other prestigious award-giving bodies she once dreamt of having.
She managed to stop her guards to look for my cane when I asked for a photo and asked the security to take our selfie. Still the most beautiful and most impeccable actress I've ever met, Vilma never fails to amaze us all with her kindness, her sincerity, her truthfulness and her wisdom from own experiences in the past. Thank you very much Gov. Vi and ABS-CBN. I'm already too excited to watch "T-Bird At Ako" also showing this month digitally restored by ABS-CBN Film Archives. Direk Leo Katigbak is making our dreams come true. With Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos and the kilometric lines/repartee from the genius Danny Zialcita, "T-Bird At Ako" will make the youth of today understand why we all hunger for one that will top that masterpiece. To date, ABS-CBN Film Archives has already restored 72 films since it started in 2011. All the restored films are shown on Cinema One on cable and viewed via pay-per-view and video-on-demand, distributed on DVD and downloadable via iTunes.
