I have always dreamt of being one of the ladies in gowns in Flores De Mayo when I was young. This iconic Filipino tradition in honor for the Blessed Virgin Mary dates back to the 19th century by floral offerings made by Filipina girls to the local parish churches will always be one we wouldn't miss. I've attended the media launch of this tradition courtesy of Congregacion del Santissimo Nombre del Niño Jesus founded by the very own dean of Philippine fashion, Mr. Ben Farrales sponsored by Unilever Philippines at Casino Español in Malate, Manila last April 23, 2013 with fellow lifestyle writers. Ms. Liza Vengco Communications Manager of Unilever Philippines gave us a glimpse of what to expect from Flores De Mayo 2013 slated on May 5, 2013 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. Featuring 30 ladies dressed in the finest and exquisite gowns created by top designers of the country, Unilever Philippines' Flores De Mayo 2013's theme will be the "Colors of Mindanao" evoking the exotic lands down south of the Philippines. We've seen some of the creations worn by top model Ms. Apples Aberin and some other beauty queens that day and I'm already so excited to watch who'd be the Reyna Elenas.
Vying for the title Rosa Mystica or Mystical Rose will be creations from the country's top designers, Ivan Dela Cruz, Buddy Reyes, Obet Orajay, Fanny Serrano, Edgar Allan, Pepe Quitoco, Danilo Franco, Arielle Agasang, Edwin Tan, Johnny Abad, Renee Salud, Olie Morabe, Edwin Uy, Steve De Leon, Christopher Quejano, Richard Papa, Rholand Roxas, Frederick Peralta, Edgar Madamba, Leslie Rivera, Pencil Diestra, Rikko Escaro, Pepsi Herrera, Edgar San Diego, Jontie Martinez, Francis Calaquian, Gener Gozum and Lito Perez. Other awards include Magandang Pilipinas, La Flor De Manila and Reina de las Flores. Congregacion members present during the event were Chairman Jing Chua, President Jesse Neil, Vice-President Steve De Leon, Secretary Dennis Maturan, Treasurer Venson Nobrera and other members including Nolie Hans, Donnie Delima, Dingdong Bautista, Toni Galang and Totoy Bayabo. The designers' sketches was revealed during the media launch and guests had a chance to see what to expect in the grand parade with a fashion show featuring the designs of Ben Farrales and Apples Aberin.
I'm so excited to watch the Flores De Mayo 2013 on May 5 at SM MOA produced by the Congregacion del Santissimo Nomber del Niño Jesus, the City of Pasay, Creamsilk and SM Mall of Asia together with Unilever Philippines. Oh and who would not want to miss Boots Anson-Roa hosting the event! Let's all celebrate the Flores De Mayo 2013 on May 5, 2013 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall!
