We all listen and appreciate the music we can relate to. ABS-CBN and Star Records on it's 60th year of celebrating OPM and musical masterpieces relaunched Himig Handog 2013 themed, Pinoy Pop (P-Pop) Love Songs: Mga Awit at Kwento ng Pusong Pilipino today at 9501 Restaurant at 14th flr. ELJ Building, ABS-CBN Compound with the media. On its 5th year receiving a total of 2, 500 original compositions from Pinoy songwriters worldwide, Himig Handog announced their 12 finalists which include "Alaala" by Ma. Fe Mechenette Tianga, Melvin Huwervana and Joel Jabot Jr. from Iloilo; "Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa" by Jovinor Tan from Malabon; "If You Ever Change Your Mind" by Marion Aunor from Makati; "Hanggang Wakas"" by Soc Villanueva from Australia; "Kahit Na" by Julius James de Belen from Quezon City; "Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat" by Jungee Marcelo from Pasig; "One Day" by Agatha Obar Morallos from Baguio City; "Pwede Bang Ako Na Lang Ulit" by Jeffrey Cifra from Cavite; "Sana'y Magbalik" by Arman Alferez from Caloocan; "Scared To Death" by Domingo Rosco Jr. from Bohol; "Tamang Panahon" by Wynn Andrada from Makati and "This Song Is For You" by Jude Gitamondoc from Cebu.
Sung by the biggest names in the Philippine music industry including Angeline Quinto for "One Day", Aiza Seguerra for "Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa", Erik Santos for "This Song Is For You", Yeng Constantino for "Alaala", Juris Fernandez Lim for "Hanggang Wakas", Toni Gonzaga for "Kahit Na", Bugoy Drilon for "Pwede Bang Ako Na Lang Ulit", Jovit Baldivino for "Sana'y Magbalik", KZ Tandingan for "Scared to Death" and Daniel Padilla for "Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat" and two young songwriter/singers Marion Aunor (niece of the superstar Nora Aunor) for "If You Ever Change Your Mind" and Wynn Andrada for "Tamang Panahon".
It was very obvious not only in the top 12 Himig Handog 2013 finalists and Facebook posts that Filipinos are so much into romantic/emotional broken-hearted songs. Toni Gonzaga's "Kahit Na" and Wynn Andrada's "Tamang Panahon" seemed to me the most distinct in message and in melody. What made me almost shed a tear was Aiza's "Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa". It was actually more surprising to watch the music videos of each song created by the students from the country's most prestigious universities, UP Diliman, Ateneo De Manila, De La Salle University, UST, PUP, San Beda College, FEU, UE-Caloocan, MINT College, Philippine Christian University, Adamson University and TIP Manila. The music videos will be first aired tomorrow, February 1, 2013 on "Himig Handog Pinoy MYX Special" on MYX SkyCable Channel 23.

Most of the songs in the Himig Handog 2013 Top 12 can actually be original soundtracks of teleserye or movies soon by ABS-CBN. I really love the concept and the great advocacy to support OPM with P-Pop Himig Handog 2013 and I will definitely vote the song that best deserves the "Tunog Pinoy of 2013". It's the Love Month and it's time to take your pick on ABS-CBN and Star Records' Himig Handog 2013 P-Pop Pinoy Love Songs!
