No storm can stop a foodie from joining Anton Diaz's Ultimate Taste Test 9.0. Despite the stormy weather foodies gathered at the newest hole in the wall in Molito Complex, Alabang last Sunday for Our Awesome Planet's Ultimate Taste Test 9.0 at Mercato Centrale's Soderno.
First to caught my eye was this Fresh Chinese Lumpia my granny used to treat me when I was young beside the VIP Chicharon of Mommy Corrie. It's understandable why she'd label it VIP because the pork rinds have no MSG and the recipe was concocted from the United States. Compared to the chicharon we all love from Bulacan, theirs was rich in texture and not too salty so that you'd savor the pork flavor without having to worry that its mixed with artificial flavorings.
Next stall was most interesting since I really thought they were Filipinos. Calidad Española's Chorizo had these tasty chorizo bites in toothpicks.
At Php225/pack (approximately 250grams per pack), Calidad Española's Chistorra, Chorizo Picante, Cantimpalos and Criollo excited my taste buds with such class.
This is Ton Chaya's Authentic Japanese Pizza at Php 150(whole). They also served us Shoyo Ramen and they can also be found at Mezza Norte at UP Ayala Technohub.
Another flavorful feat was Panzarotti's Pocket Pizza served with fresh basil and alfalfa in Pomodoro sauce. I really hoped they have a stall in Mezza Norte so I can bring home some for my family.
Perfect on a rainy evening that soothe my senses was the Chicken Lugaw of Royal Brands' Premium Fish Sauce.
Next was Happy Panda Chicken's rice toppings in Original flavor, Asian Buffalo and Satay Gravy Chicken.
Mercato Centrale's famous Manila Q's Bagwang was also there to participate with their tasty and crispy bagwang with options served with fried rice to complete your the experience.
Neneng's 100% pure tableya diluted in hot water with option served with fresh milk soothed my cold throat on a cold rainy evening and it was dirt cheap sold at Php 120 a small plastic canister (to serve more than 15 people when cooked). They also had cakes and other delectable treats.
Then came the good looking couple that brought heaven to earth with their wonderful Red Velvet Crinkles. Little Bites' of Cham Niduaza serves cupcakes and cupcake bites and created another feat to the tier of sweet sinful treats with their Red Velvet Crinkles.
Refreshing surprise was Hizon's Catering's daughter who created PureFlavors Artisan Sorbets.
Unforgettable Macadamia, Vahlrona Dark Chocolate, Macadamia Strawberry and Pistachio Sorbet gathered the kids and the young-at-heart to indulge since it has no dairy to spoil your diet.
The stall that brought the dainty packaged Dairy Fresh Milk Pastillas and fresh milk had an interesting Kakaloka Coffee beans.
There were still too many to feature including Merry Moo's Chili Bacon Tablea Ice Cream and Strawberry Cheesecake, Coffee Liquor, Liquor Ice Cream, Mocktails, Isaw Juan Ko, Balamban's Liempo, Thai Authentic Coffee and Moringa, Ampalaya and 4-in-1 Juices. Being a food critic for a day at Soderno Molito Alabang gave each of us a chance to marvel at great food finds at a meager cost. The top five winners of the latest Ultimate Taste Test will not only be featured in www.OurAwesomePlanet.com's blog, they will also be given a free month's stay in any of the Mercato Centrale-managed food markets which include Soderno in Alabang, Distrito in Makati, Mezza Norte in Quezon City and Mercato Centrale in Bonifacio Global City. I've also read that Mercato Centrale takes the food passion forward inviting all students to be the next food entrepreneur.
Hats off to the organizers of Mercato Centrale, RJ Ledesma and Anton Diaz for putting up a search for the next Successful Food Entrepreneur because it will not just spark the interest of the young to create and invent food choices to help increase productivity among the youth. Mercato Centrale provides opportunity to SMEs to participate without having to pay so much for a space. The need to educate the youth to entrepreneurship will alleviate their perennial issue on poverty, it will also teach them of the real-life learning lessons how their parents actually earn every cent they spend. These and more should be promoted and supported by all, after all, most of our unforgettable learning experiences came not from the books.
