Event:Meeting Bb. Joyce Bernal and Writer Joel Mercado for Segunda Mano (MMFF 2011)

It's always jaw-dropping to meet an icon who sets her feet on the ground yet remarkably impeccable and competent in her craft. Bb. Joyce Bernal, the renowned director of MJM Productions, AgostoDos Pictures and Star Cinema's Metro Manila Film Fest entry, "Segunda Mano" deserves the recognition and respect of the showbiz industry because of her discipline and commitment to making each film project closer to our realities. Bloggers were invited to Segunda Mano's presscon yesterday at the TeaCup in Mother Ignacia St. Quezon City with stars busy with tapings and immediate concerns (Kris Aquino who was in Cagayan De Oro to help the Typhoon Sendong victims and Angelica Panganiban and Dingdong Dantes on location shoots for their teleseryes).
Segunda Mano brings back the Box Office Queen of Horror Kris Aquino, the icon Helen Gamboa (Sen. Tito Sotto's lovely wife and Sharon Cuneta's favorite aunt), the sultry Angelica Panganiban and GMA-7's big star Dingdong Dantes in a movie about our favorite things that comes with surprises, "segunda mano" items. Those who love "ukay-ukay" may actually be affected as Kris, (playing Mabel Domingo), an owner of a high-class but creepy antique shop who'd be chased by a violent ghost in the climax. Angelica Panganiban is the big surprise who joins the cast and her role will leave the viewers guessing at the end of the film.
I was left with awe at the honesty of Bb. Joyce Bernal who revealed her fears about the movie compared to the other MMFF entries. It was her first time to do a straight horror film following her horror-comedy flick, "D'Anothers" with Vhong Navarro. She said that the concept of the movie came from a joke about women who hang on to their bags like it has it's own force and that the choice of the red bag was carefully researched and chosen by the Star Cinema Creative Team.
Writer Joel Mercado was also admiring the work of Bb. Joyce Bernal in the movie adapting his script to a dimension that's closer to the reality we all face everyday. He may not have first-hand experiences on ghosts like Bb. Joyce Bernal who shared to us her stories of ghosts during film editing from other film projects but he was inspired to write about ghosts from previous horror flicks he watched and admired through these years.
Segunda Mano also stars Bangs Garcia, Ian Veneracion, Rico Blanco, Angel Jacob and Jhong Hilario. I am watching this film on December 25, 2011 because I'm interested on the character of the legendary Helen Gamboa who plays Adela, haunted by a vengeful ghost and more importantly the role of Angelica Panganiban in the movie. Helen Gamboa will soon be seen in the star-studded ABS-CBN teleserye "Walang Hanggan" along with Suan Roces (playing her sister), Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Rita Avila, Joem Bascon, Melissa Ricks, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes and Coco Martin.
Catch Segunda Mano under MJM Productions, AgostoDos Pictures and Star Cinema on December 25 in theaters nationwide.
