I'm not into showbiz but I deal all the time with teens. I've just attended the grand media presscon of ABS-CBN's Growing Up starring Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Diego Loyzaga and Daniel Padilla last Tuesday at ABS-CBN compound sharing reflections of growing up moments with fellow media friends.
Directed by Lino Cayetano, it features also Neil Coleta, EJ Fallurin and Kiray. Growing Up (the name) used to be a sequel of GMA's TGIS also directed by Lino Cayetano which stars Angelu De Leon and Bobby Andrews in 1997-1999. This is a story of childhood best friends, Ella (Kathryn) and Tammy (Julia) in their endeavors to the stage of adolescence raising money for Ms. Lisa Ortega (Maricar Reyes), their favorite teacher diagnosed with a serious ailment.
Considering I deal with teens everyday at school, it daunted me to ask how these teen actors/actresses experience the growing up lifestyle and activities missing out on some of the most significant moments. When I had a chance to ask the cast, most of the media participants shared with the same memories of missing JS proms and other normal activities of their age. I wondered how it will definitely affect their perceptions in the future about their memories as teens. I have also similar curiosities to the type of lifestyle and moral support those teens born of celebrity parents like Cesar Montano and Teresa Loyzaga's handsome boy, Diego Loyzaga who seemed so sweet and thoughtful. What's more surprising was Karla Estrada and Rommel Padilla's Daniel Padilla who may have acquired the family's charisma with girls sharing his stories of having three relationships at the age of 16 with such confidence and robust masculine attitude typical of a Padilla. The TV series to air starting September 4 on ABS-CBN will soon be followed by my students and the like relating moments of ups and downs on their growing up stage. I have much respect to Director Lino Cayetano who believes that the viewers today should be listening to the youth constantly crying for attention and details to better deal with their individual circumstances growing up.
What have you missed as a teenager? I know I would love to repeat those JS prom again since I wasn't able to really enjoy it leaving early during the event because of my strict father. I started reminiscing how I was infatuated with my first crush who I sang with in high school during a school program. Who was your first crush?
