He loves nothing but cooking and he succeeded. On its 10th anniversary, SM Hypermarket continues to create milestones with its SM Master Chefs program with Chef Deejay Santos' Marathon cooking demo using Lee Kum Kee at SM Hypermarket Fairview last July 7, 2011.
Of the nineteen master brands joining SM Hypermarket: Knorr, Neste All-Purpose Cream, Unilever Food Solutions, Tabasco, Lady's Choice, Maggi, Clara Ole, Kikkoman Soy Sauce, San Remo, McCormick, Bounty Fresh Chicken, CDO, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog, Purefoods Star Hotdog, Magnolica Cheeze Spread, Magnolia Purefresh, Magnolia Dairy Creme, Lee Kum Kee was featured in three dishes cooked by Chef Deejay Santos.
Oriental Pasta Delight using Lee Kum Kee Chili Garlic and Lee Kum Kee Panda Oyster Sauce. Recipe is simple as saute onion and Lee Kum Kee Chili Garlic sauce and add in the ground pork. Add rice wine, Lee Kum Kee Panda Oyster Sauce, chicken stock, boil and simmer until pork is cooked. Add carrots and green peas and continue sauteeing until cooked. Pour over noodles and voila, Oriental Pasta Delight!
Chef Deejay also cooked Delicious Chicken in Lee Kum Kee Soy Sauce. Simple recipe was mixing Lee Kum Kee Soy Sauce, chicken bouillon, stock and well-dissolved sugar. Boil broth, seasoned with salt and pepper and simmer chicken until well done. In a wok, hold chicken above wok with a pair of tongs and pour over hot oil over chicken to make the skin crispy. Arrange chicken on a serving plate with shredded ginger and green onions. Pour a little oil over the chicken, about 2 tbsp and pour the sauce mix around the serving plate. For a darker look, simmer chicken with water and sauce mix and reduce the leftover liquid until thick.
Finally, he made the Spicy Prawns in Hoisin Sauce. Pan-fry meat in hot oil until golden yellow and saute Lee Kum Kee Hoisin Sauce and Lee Kum Kee Chili Bean Sauce in 2 tbsp oil. Add seasoning mix, prawns and stir well until sauce thickened.
Teachers and students from Tala High School, Best Link College and STI Fairview marveled and enjoyed the cooking demonstration of Chef Deejay Santos III. They also participated in the games and fun activities sponsored by SM Hypermarket Fairview announcing the set of cook-offs and kitchen make-overs soon to be launched in SM Fairview.
Chef Deejay Santos was a graduate of Center for Culinary Arts in Manila and had worked locally and abroad teaching local culinary schools. He inspired me to teach my students on loving culinary arts sharing his experiences of food when he was young. From being a problematic and at-risk learner to being one of the most successful chefs in the country, he continues to share his passion for cooking pasta dishes and other recipes with fellow foodies enjoying cooking demonstrations for Sysu International. I also shared the same passion to explore kitchen science where most chefs all over the world continue to promote. We both loved the idea of using local cuisines to explore unique and creative presentation of dishes.
From July to September, every week in three months, SM Master Chefs will conduct marathon of cooking demos touring SM Hypermarket branches all over the country, showcasing culinary products and cooking aids. Alongside will be Kitchen Makeover, where five lucky shoppers will get the chance to have their kitchen redesigned and furnished. This project is done in partnership with established designers from the Philippine School of Interior Design. SM Supersized Cook-off events set to make culinary records will be in five different locations, each will feature a regional dish and will be under the help of local government units and the community.
SM Hypermarket seek to unite all the diverse sects of foodies with culinary treats and demos with their events surely bringing the message of attainable culinary excellence to every corner of the country at no cost.
