I was really surprised at Melisa "Melai" Cantiveros last night. It was a hilarious 1st Bloggers' Night Star Cinema and Sine Screen presented to bloggers last night at Max's Roces Ave. branch holding the bloggers' press conference of Melason's The Adventures of Pureza. I've watched her and Jason Francisco develop into movie superstars since they both won the PBB and it was my first time meeting them in person.
I found it really hard to control my laughter watching Bekimon, Joem Basco, Nico Antonio, Melai and Jason join the feast of Max's Chicken-All-You-Can. The movie, "The Adventures of Pureza" is about the infinite travails of a striving woman working too many jobs to make ends meet and the circumstances she faces creates hilarious scenes that Director Soxy Topacio conceptualized.
It was quite ambitious and really hilarious for Star Cinema to compete with HP7 showing this movie on the same week but Filipinos should really be smarter to patronize the efforts of the cast. I'm at awe at the efforts at Direk Soxy and the Melason cast with the special participation of Pokwang and Gina Pareño in The Adventures of Pureza from starting as an independent film to a full-length commercial film with sponsors.
I didn't realize also that Melai was so smart and really witty off-cam and I was humbled at the attitude of Jason Francisco, Joem Basco and Nico Antonio. I've noticed the great chemistry which made each scene of the movie really effective in contributing to develop Filipino comedy. The movie is about Pura (Melai) who struts all possible ways to feed and care for her one and only brother Ulam. Ruben (Jason) is Pura's best friend who later became her true love. She transforms from being the "Queen of the Riles" to the model Pureza Mayriles and tries to struggle to achieve her dreams despite all odds.
Veteran director Soxie Topacio helms this co-production movie of Star Cinema and Sine Screen which I'm so excited about. We, Pinoys should start re-thinking our worth in the movie industry and patronize our own. Hats off to Star Cinema and Sine Screen for the efforts in this film. Congratulations to Bekimon, Joem Basco, Nico Antonio, Jason Francisco and Melai Cantiveros for The Adventures of Pureza.
Go for the big laugh than making more Americans proud. Love your own, Pinoy! The Adventures of Pureza: Queen of the Riles opens in over 100 theaters on July 13th nationwide!
