Great food and great company make a great dining experience. It was my first time attending an OpenRice event last Tuesday at Tender Bobs Greenbelt and I was surprised with joy experiencing great food with great company. I have joined their site (www.openrice.com) since last year and have consulted it on most of my food choices. I have passed by Tender Bobs many times and since no one among my friends have recommended it, I have not tried their dishes until last Tuesday.
First, we were served their best-seller appetizer, Loaded Potato Skins (P210) served with cheese and garlic dip.The potato skins were so thin and crispy and reminded me of the famous San Mig Bar Shangrila Mall's Potato Skins 20 years ago with my college friends. Not too salty and definitely not oily, their potato skins would really make you reflect on how you waste those potato skins when cooking.
I was about to ask how the Spinach and Artichoke Dip (195) looked like when they served the dish smoking hot with chips. They were made fresh and the dip was mixed with melted cheese so I think even the kids will enjoy this. Next came was this Angus Sisig which was not included in the menu. Mr. Bobby Tenchavez, (exclusive supplier of Lagarde and Argentina wines) told me that they'd soon include the dish in the menu.
You'd really appreciate the Angus Beef chunks on the sisig as it was so tender and really juicy with the diced onions, peppers and sauce. Those afraid of eating innards and brains in local Sisig dishes have a great choice with Angus Sisig of Tender Bobs.
Seafood Salad (P290) was a big plate of shrimps, breaded deep-fried squid rings, crabsticks with fresh julienne turnips, cucumber and romaine lettuce in sweet balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Crunchy, sweet and tangy sauce complemented the saltiness of the seafood. The girls would definitely prefer this while on a romantic date at Tender Bobs.
Oriental Chicken Salad (P205) is a big plate of chunks of mango, roasted chicken, romaine lettuce, julienne turnips and other vegges dressed with sweet balsamic vinegar. Those avoiding the steaks at Tender Bobs and the vegans will definitely enjoy this dish with the family.
We were served red and white wines courtesy of Lagarde, exclusive distributor of wines at Tender Bobs to pair with their delicious steaks.
U.S. Angus Short Ribs (P435) was sweet and chunky that'll definitely melt in your mouth. Those afraid of rare steaks will savor the hickory sauce spilled and marinated over this well-cooked meat served with seamed vegetables and corn.
Angus Ribeye for two (P750/hungry size 6oz) served with fresh steamed vegetables and corn prepared medium-rare was juicy and delicious with Tender Bob's The Bomb (sliced steamed potatoes with garlic dressing)
My choice of sides was the garlic rice but I realized Tender Bob's The Bomb was really perfect with their steaks.
Then came the Braised Aussie Lamb Shank (P395) falling off the bone served with steamed vegetables and corn and a special spicy and sweet sauce.
I was too full nibbling each dish served but I wasn't able to resist a gastronomic delight which to me was the Pièce de résistance, Butterscotch Pudding on a bed of custard topped with vanilla ice cream served on a hot sizzling plate. The owners of Tender Bobs have yet to announce the price of the dish which I believe would be the most patronized by diners of the restaurant.
They also served this Pleasure Mountain (P375) vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream scoops with gummy jellies, cookie crumbs, chocolate drizzle, choco wafer sticks and choco sprinkles with whipped cream and cherries on top. Although the ice cream was also irresistible, I was too captivated with the presentation, the taste and the texture of the Butterscotch pudding that I still think about it the night after.
Tender Bobs also serves pasta, burgers and sandwiches aside from their wonderful choices of Angus steaks and ribs.
