A post Philippine Independence Day celebration sponsored by Avida Land Corporation lobbied for public support for the slowly fading Original Pilipino Music (OPM) last night dubbed "Tunog Natin" held at Ayala Triangle Gardens Makati. Avida Land Corporation also launched the second tower of Avida Towers San Lorenzo, Avida's latest condominium offering in Makati. Tunog Natin concert was part of the Colors of Freedom celebration in cooperation with the Freedom Concert on June 10 (featuring Bituin Escalante, Gerard Salonga and FllharmoniKa orchestra). The free concert was attended by top performers like singer-songwriter and APO Hiking Society stalwart Jim Paredes, our very own bossa nova queen Sitti, Callalily, 6CycleMind, Pedicab, Princess Velasco, Sabrina, Myrus, Arnee Hidalgo, Aries Sales and the ground-breaking OPM boyband, 1:43 (One Forty-Three).
I really enjoyed the songs rendered by Jim Paredes, Sitti, 6CycleMind, Aries Sales especially that of Jim Paredes' original composition, "Butong Pakwan" from his new album, "Laro" released by MCA Music. Businessmen, workers and on-lookers were granted chances to participate in the free concert and those who reserved a unit at the launched Avida Tower Two San Lorenzo in Makati also had chances to win an Ipad 2. I heard screams of bystanders who won prizes in different activity booths courtesy of Avida Land Corporation.
Sitti's new song, "Wag Mo na Munang Sabihin" went beyond bossa nova singing this romantic song about the hardships of breaking up. It was really a sad song that most women will actually appreciate.
I was actually surprised at 6CycleMinds singing Eraserheads medley songs because they were able to make the audience jump and sing at the popular icon band's beat. It reminded me of more college memories with friends who were instrumental to my hey-days then. It felt bad leaving the concert at 10pm because of my early work the next day but I really enjoyed reflecting on my favorite OPM songs and new favorites discovered during the event.
Tunog Natin was also sponsored by Ayala Land, Banapple and Freego.
