Of voodoos and mermaids. It must've been a Filipino movie I thought. I've just attended the red carpet premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides the fourth sequel to Walt Disney's Pirates series starring Johnny Depp, Ian Mcshane, Geoffrey Rush and the comeback of Penelope Cruz sponsored by SM Cinema last night at SM North IMAX seeing familiar concepts from Filipino movies. This fourth installment is about Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) joined by Angelica (Penelope Cruz) in search of the Fountain of Youth from the plot written by Tim Powers inspired by the LucasArts game, The Secret of Monkey Island and directed by Rob Marshall.
I really enjoyed the computer graphics of the movie especially those scenes with the mermaids. It reminded me how I really wanted to be a mermaid when I was young. The action scenes were again astounding and original although familiar of any Pirates series. Johnny Depp, who became known as Captain Jack Sparrow was still hilarious interrupting fight scenes with his gags trying to put logic to why they'd battle. It was really funny and entertaining and I must recommend watching it on IMAX SM North EDSA. You'd enjoy experiencing some scenes like you're really part of the movie. It was hard not to try to touch the 3D images of water and the boat. Oh, and don't get out of the theaters after the credits rolled because they'll show a scene that'll tease you to what happens next with Angela's character.
