Event: End Hunger and let's Wallk the World together on May 29

Hunger is the biggest problem the Philippines faces today and we all need to be aware of ways to help ease the growing number of hungry Filipinos. I've just attended the "Bloggers' Night" of WFP's Walk the World Event at Pizza Hut Park Square Makati last night reminding me of all the sad realities about hunger in the Philippines today. For every 10 Filipinos, 6 are hungry not eating three meals a day. I remember my best friend, Lori Hampton participating in the weekend feeding program in Pasig with fellow expats. It reminded me of my own experiences with school kids fainting and crying for help because they were hungry. It daunted me of memories saving food everyday to bring to hungry students at school since my first year of teaching. It is a reality many are indifferent with because the means to help will cost too much for every person. There are other ways to help and we can all participate.
On its 6th year, the United Nations World Food Programme in partnership with Unilever, TNT, DSM and other sponsors, will take a step towards ending hunger with WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion at SM Mall of Asia on May 29, 2011, 5am.

Fight hunger. United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) launched the "Walk the World Pilipinas 2011" in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29.

This year's "Walk the World", set to be bigger than the previous years', is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger. In addition to the traditional 2K walk, there will be a 5K run for enthusiasts, both female and male and a competitive 10K group run. Proceeds from the event will support approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao Del Norte and Lanao Del Sur.

It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school.  School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.
It takes just one step to fight hunger so please join Walk the World Pilipinas today (www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org) – together we can end hunger.
If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld
with photos, videos and donations.
