Event: TOMS One Day Without Shoes

Walking without shoes may be common to Pinoys like most of the countries in dire straits we know. I've just attended TOMS One Day Without Shoes event and experienced the process these children go through everyday walking barefoot at the Open Gardens of Trinoma Mall yesterday with fellow media friends. Blake Mycoskie of TOMS started it all after seeing realities during a vacation in Argentina in 2006. Spurred to create a solution that will have a direct impact on a child's life, he created TOMS shoes with a simple premise that every purchase of a TOMS pair of shoes, the company will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One pair for every purchase is the target and he was able to give out 10,000 pairs within a few months.
TOMS fans and media alike experienced briefly how life would be like without shoes. It was an act of solidarity with compassion and a burst of energy and passion for a better world for children.
After five years in business, "One for One" model is more than just a novelty project. TOMS has expanded its line, won the 2007 People's Design Award at Cooper-Hewitt's National Design Awards, became a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and landed shelf space in Whole Foods.
Filipinos had gone loco over TOMS not just with the advocacy to give a pair of shoes to a child in need but because of its classic simple yet durable designs fit for any occasion and any season. It's timeless and really suits all type of fashion trends.
Brands we all patronize had become not just a trend of design but a statement with TOMS. More importantly the information they give when visiting any TOMS shop will entice you to learn meaningful facts about what we least consider:
Fact 1: In many developing countries, children must walk barefoot for miles to get to school, fetch fresh wear and seek medical help. Fact 2: Hundreds of millions of children are at risk of injury from walking on rough terrain and are unable to afford medical attention to treat these wounds. Fact 3: Children with access to education, clothing, shoes and food become healthier and happier individuals. They have a higher chance at succeeding in life and creating a positive effect in their communities.
Have the heart to give without having to sacrifice quality and fashion with TOMS. Participate in the One for One Movement to help give shoes to a child in need.
Look what designs TOMS have this summer! They're really comfortable, durable and more importantly, suitable to any style of your choice!
