I never get tired of sandwiches. I can live without rice actually but never on sandwiches and pasta. I've just attended the blogger event of Figaro Coffee Company's new snacks this Lent featuring Kani Sandwich and Chili Sardine Angel Hair Pasta yesterday at Figaro Shangrila Mall in Mandaluyong. Kani often referred to Kani Salad which is crabsticks with fresh veggies mixed with mayo. Figaro's Kani Sandwich (P179), is crabsticks filling garnished with fresh lettuce and tomatoes in potato bread. It is served with side salad consisting of black olives, red and green bell peppers and drizzled with ranch dressing or vinaigrette. The saltiness of the crabsticks with mayo was made light and crunchy with the freshly-made salad, perfect with their new Berried Watermelon Figaro Frost (P125). It reminded me of my Boracay beach snacks while waiting for the sunset. Fresh veggies like lettuce, red and green bell peppers are actually sweet and crunchy. Most of my students may continually argue considering the processed food diet they have acquired since birth. Kani (crabsticks) may also be processed but the presentation of the sandwich with fresh vegetables and the tanginess of the mixture with the dressing and the mayo made it healthy, light and really delicious.
They also served this wonderful Chili Sardine Angel Hair Pasta (P189), Spanish sardines sauteed in garlic, olive oil, dried chili flakes, onions and black olives tossed in angel hair pasta garnished with freshly-chopped parsely and parmesan cheese. I thought I can eat the whole dish after having a light and filling Kani Sandwich but the serving was actually hefty. The angel hair pasta with the salty and spicy mixture of the spanish sardines with onions, garlic, dried chili flakes and black olives was so heavy for a snack. It's rich, flavorful and really thick. The dried chili flakes may not be pleasing to the kids and teens like the spanish sardines but this is just perfect for those observing the Lent and wanting to lose pounds to sink fit on two-pieces this summer. I don't really like sardines in pasta being afraid that the fishy scales may distract me enjoying the taste but to my surprise this dish was actually scales-free and smell-free. It may have been the olive oil and the black olives that overpowered the fish smell and scales. They have put just the right amount of dried chili flakes to make me enjoy the smoky and tangy olive oil taste in the angel hair pasta. It was indeed heavy yet light on the tummy.
I washed everything down with Tropical Sorbet Figaro Frost (P125), passion fruit and peach flavors combined sorbet. The dessert was this Old English Matrimonial Bar (P49), a healthy bar made from oats, desiccated coconut and butter with raspberry spread in the middle. Sweet, nutty crumbs and crunchy oats of this Old English Matrimonial Bar was perfect ending a healthy and light dinner.
They also served this Peanut Butter Cookies (P49) that's resembling a popular candy we all know as Choc-Nut. Chewy and nutty Peanut Butter Cookies of Figaro is not actually so sweet. Their Low Sugar Cherry Choco Muffin was also the same. Thick, chocolatey yet low on sugar was perfect with a hot cup of coffee.
I was happy eating this cherry choco muffin until the Marble Cream Cheese Brownies was served. It made me forget all the other dessert choices.
I've probably loved cheese on cakes and sweet desserts that I've preferred this Marble Cream Cheese Brownies among all the sweets served. I would never resist Figaro's Marble Cream Cheese Brownies. I would probably choose this over a thick chocolate mousse or any other chocolate dessert. This is really so delicious.
