Ultimate lunch for ultimately hungry group.
After a tiring day of joining the Regional Secondary Schools Press Conference in Pasig Catholic School, we indulged in an ultimate feast ordering Plato Ultimo (Amigo at P1265/good for 3-4pax and Familia at P1895/good for 5-6pax) at Agave Mexica Cantina, City Walk, Eastwood, Quezon City.
From the moment we stepped in the restaurant, the staff courteously entertained our inquiries about the food and what's best to offer to taste all the best dishes of Agave Mexica Cantina. The students were not familiar with Mexican food so we thought of ordering the latest promo of a dish perfect for sharing.
While waiting for the feast to be served, the waiter gave us these nachos with salsa to tease our appetite while entertaining our curiosities about the restaurant and the type of food served. The nachos were so crispy and delicious that I wasn't able to have a piece after it was swamped by fingers of our students. They've all noticed that it wasn't the nachos they've tried before since it was served thin, hot and crispy on the plate - not salty and not bland. The salsa was perfect but few of the students would rather have cheese as dip.
We were all thinking the food wasn't enough for all of us so we examined the choices in the menu again for other options. A few minutes later came the feast that none of us expected. Plato Ultimo Amigo size which was told to be good for 3-4 persons was really huge. It had Crab and Shrimp Chile Rellenos, Calamari Fritos, Beef Taquitos, Chips and Salsa, Yucatan Skewers, Filete de Pescado, Agave Baby Back Ribs, and Quesadillas. Ms. Pat Tiongson, my co-school paper adviser at Lagro High School enjoyed the Dory fish (Filete de Pescado) topped with salsa and tangy and sweet served with a slice of lemon while most of the students enjoyed the Calamari Fritos and all the other dishes served in the platter. It was expected they'd enjoyed the grilled meat (Yukatan Skewers and the Agave Baby Back Ribs) being kids but hearing them comment on the spices and how the food was prepared was really amusing. The Crab and Shrimp Rellenos was also surprisingly tasty and crunchy with real shrimps and crabs filling perfect with those salsa and dips.
I really appreciated the melt-in-your-mouth Agave Baby Back Ribs with its sweet and spicy sauce and the Filete de Pescados which will remind you of lemon chicken - sweet, salty and tangy at every bite. The Plato Ultimo did not just served 3-4 because we were 6 in the group and the servings of each dish was really huge we had a difficulty emptying the whole platter. It is perfect for the whole family after Sunday mass or gatherings on weekends because the platter can actually be shared for more than 6 unless the group had endured hunger for hours or simply have that big appetite.
The restaurant seemed only a night bar serving the best margarita in Eastwood City - the haven of all call center agents but today I've realized, it's the best place to feast for lunch.
