Olive oil is not just good for the heart, now it's also easy on the budget and it's also good for Filipino recipes.
I have always bought Doña Elena's Olive Oil since I've began cooking pasta for 5 years and it was my first time to join the Doña Elena Cuisinera Club today at Cravings, CCA Kitchen in Eastwood Mall, Libis.
Bringhe, a very popular Kapampangan recipe more popularly connoted to Spanish paella (kapampangan style), Sisig, a Kapampangan term meaning "to snack on something sour" originated from locals residents who bought unused pig heads from the commissaries of Clark Air Base in Angeles City, and Pork Kilawin (or kilayin as Kapampangan calls them) was made more special and healthier using Doña Elena's Olive oil.
Hosted by the witty, funny and beautiful Ms. Jamie Fueller, the cooking demonstration of each recipe included the participants joining the preparation and cutting of ingredients, games played by the club members who are mostly senior citizens (as many of those who value Doña Elena products and the brand recognize its health benefits than the young).
The discussions about each recipes were made even livelier with the Kapampangan club members sharing thoughts and information on what they know about Bringhe, Sisig and Pork Kilawin. It was interesting to notice many of the male club members interested to learn more recipes using Doña Elena's products.
Chef Carla and Mark Bangay of the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA) were entertaining sharing their stories of how they fell in love while cooking sisig. The most hilarious and interesting discussion was the use of pork brains and how it was bad for the health but too tasty for Sisig.
I was surprised to know that Doña Elena's products aside from Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Pitted Black Olives and Pitted Green Olives also has Spanish Sardines, Anchovies and Diced and Whole Peeled Canned Tomatoes! which I rarely notice in the supermarkets when I shop. Jolly Cow products of Fresh Milk, Non-Fat Milk and Condensada also has Jolly Spread Swirl I haven't tried yet.
It was a memorable learning experience joining the cooking demonstrations and talks at the Doña Elena Cuisinera Club and anybody can join for free at their site - http://www.cuisineraclub.com. Get to know how Doña Elena's products can bring your ordinary dishes to healthier meals and more free cooking demonstrations updates.
Did you know?
1. that Olive Oil was first used by the inhabitants of Ancient Rome for its internal and external benefits.
2. that Olive Oil is very good for digestion as it makes easy for the body to assimilate various foods giving a boost to the whole metabolic process.
3. that Olive Oil is extremely rich in iron and A, B1, B2, C, E and D vitamins. The E vitamin is one of the most important helpers in the fight against the aging process, while the other vitamins assure a balanced diet and improve the body effectiveness and development. Another great benefit of Olive Oil is the addition of "good:" fat acids to the daily diet. These acids help the skin, making it more elastic and smooth.
Like what William Kennedy once said, "Italians...seemed never to die. They eat olive oil all day long...and that's what does it."
