"Love is like a violin. The music may stop now and then, but the strings remain forever."
The Institute for Orchestral Development in the Philippines with the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra on its 10th anniversary presented "Chasing Barlines", a concert gala with Music Underkonstruction V and grand launching of Koro Filipino with MMCO Soloists; Jonathan Tapoc, Gilbert Asuque and Crystal Milarose Rodis last friday, July 30, 2010 at the Miriam College Auditorium.
The said celebration of vibrant music featured entries to this year's "Music Underkonstruction" combined Music and Film themes like M.Bulaong's "Pagtangis ni Inang Kalikasan" with filmmaker Jelson Darryl Figuerres and A.J. Villanueva's "pa(g)hinga" along with the performances of Koro Filipino.
Dr. Patricia Licuanan, Co-founder and Chairperson of the Institute for Orchestral Development of the Philippines and Metro Manila Concert Orchestra (MMCO), Josefino Chino Toledo, Conductor with Alfonso "Coke" Bolipata, also co-founder and President of MMCO gave recognition to the said array of musical talents at the final set of performances.
I remembered Coke Bolipata from the movie, "Boses" where he was given citations and awards for his outstanding performance as a violin teacher to the abused child, Ariel.
This event did not only remind me how important teaching the youth of today to appreciate orchestra amidst the growing technology but the more significant fact that the Philippine orchestra needs more recognition.
