Fellow bloggers and college friends Arpee and Noreen Lazaro invited me to this Maclang event to fight against cervical cancer today, March 20, 2009 at the Makati Central Park in Guadalupe. The event was a biking tour from Manila to the Cordilleras with local celebrities committing to the war against the said cancer. A project of Bravehearts, an NGO spreading cervical cancer awareness, in cooperation with Cervical Cancer Prevention (CECAP) Network Program, Rockwell Plant Mall, David's Salon, and Global Pharmaceuticals Company (GlaxoSmithKline-GSK). It was inspiring to see local celebrities supporting the cause, David Charlton of David's Salon, Maricel Laxa and husband Anthony Pangilinan and the others. Some politicians who attended were Ruffy Biazon and Senator Pia Cayetano. I hope the poor majority can afford the vaccine preferably taken by 26 years old women and younger otherwise our government should have to draft projects to help give free immunization to all. The alarming rate of Filipino women especially with the growing positive cases of AIDS should also look into the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causing cervical cancer to help improve the health of women in the country.
